Renewing your license

A license is renewed either on your province's eDLVRS portal or in person at a transport office, with your original license and citizenship. A lost one is replaced rather than renewed, and that starts at the traffic police.

Renewing online

  1. 1Open your province's eDLVRS portal and choose License renewal.
  2. 2Enter your license number, in the new or the old format as your card prints it, and your National ID number.
  3. 3Upload a scan of your National ID card or its registration form: an image or a PDF of up to 2 MB.
  4. 4Enter your date of birth in AD and your email. A one-time code goes to the mobile number linked to the license, and to the email.
  5. 5The renewal then passes the health check and the office's approval, and paying the renewal fee completes it.

Renewing at the office

  1. 1Go in person, with your original citizenship and your original license.
  2. 2Biometrics are taken at the office.
  3. 3The health check follows.
  4. 4The office approves the renewal.
  5. 5Pay the fee at the bank counter, and keep the receipt.

Which counter does what differs by office, so the steps are given without room numbers. The office's own page names its counters.

If the license is lost or damaged

A lost license is replaced with a copy, not renewed, and the office asks for a recommendation from the traffic police office saying it was lost. Take that and your original citizenship to the office; biometrics, approval and the fee follow as they do for a renewal, and the fee can be paid at the bank or online. The eDLVRS portals take the request for a copy online too.

Common questions

Can you renew a Nepali driving license online?
Yes, on your province's eDLVRS portal. License renewal takes your license number, your National ID number and a scan of the card, then a one-time code sent to the mobile number linked to the license. The health check is still part of it.
What if the license has already expired?
More than 90 days past expiry a late-renewal fine applies, and more than five years past it the license can no longer be renewed. In either case the portal says to go to your transport office in person once the health check is done.
What do you take to the office to renew?
Your original citizenship and your original license. Biometrics and a health check are done there before the fee is paid.
What if the license is lost?
Get a recommendation from the traffic police office that it was lost, then apply for a copy at the transport office with your original citizenship. It is a replacement, not a renewal.
What does renewing cost?
The fee is set province by province and changes between fiscal years, so ask the office that will renew it. This site does not print a figure it cannot source for your province.
